Now we get to the core of SWGB missions: the units.  Creating units is quite simple.  Simply click the Units tab.

  • Player is a dropdown menu used to select which player the unit belongs to.  The units automatically match the civilization selected.  Note, however, that if you edit the units before you edit the player, you have to re-place the units you did, otherwise the civilization won’t be updated.  This is useful to give Imperial/Rebel units to the other civilization, but be wary with this.  Gaia is the player which has no diplomatic relations, and when Gaia units are discovered, they join the team who found them.  Also, Gaia units include Ore/Nova, they are located under the “OTHER” tab.
  • Units/Building/Heroes/Other tabs are used to select what you want to place.  Units include infantry, fighters, etc.  Buildings included Troop Centers, Monuments, etc.  Heroes are the characters from the movies/story, such as Luke, Yoda, Vader and Palpatine.  Other includes miscellaneous items like fish, trees, banners, etc.

Now, you need to set diplomatic relations, unless you want a free for all.  So click the Diplomacy tab.
You then see a chart that goes across the bottom of the screen.

  • Ally/Neutral/Enemy sets their relations towards you.  Be sure to set similar relations for each player.  For example, if you want the EH to be against the Rebels, set the EH to hostile with Rebels and Rebels to hostile with the EH. You must do both otherwise the mission will not function correctly.
  • Allied Victory is used when there are multiple teams fighting for the same cause.  Any player who achieves the victory conditions wins the mission for the whole team. Allied Victory must be set for each player on a team!

Now, let’s learn about Global Victories.  Global Victories are widely used victory conditions, the equivalent of “100% of Team Rebel must be destroyed”.

  • Standard allows the standard victory of monument, holocrons or conquest.
  • Conquest requires the destruction of all enemy units to win the mission.  This is widely used for our purposes.
  • Score is used to win the game when a player accumulates a certain score.
  • Time Limit is used to win the game after a certain time. This is useful when you want the player to have to defend something for “300 days”, etc.
  • Custom is used to combine the above into a custom victory condition.  Custom allows for Holocron, Exploration, and Conquest.

Now, let’s set some custom options.  Click the Options tab, and you will see a row of boxes.

  • Full Tech Tree removes civilization bonuses and allows all civilizations to research all technologies in the game.
  • Disable allows you to prevent the use of certain items.  Disable can remove technologies, units or buildings. Simply check the box of which you wish to disable, and then move the desired item from the Full List to the Disabled List.
  • Set View allows for the editing of what the player sees at the start of the game.
